Yesterday alone I dropped my car off to get the oil changed at a place down the street, walked to get my haircut, met back up with Ty, walked to get lunch and then hit the grocery store on the way home.
Not only do we walk to pretty much everything, walking has become our new favorite form of exercise. We walk to the one of the parks near us or around our neighborhood area almost everyday. Sunset walks to the beach are the best, we're a little over 1 mile from the oceanfront and it's a beautiful walk. There are so many beautiful plants here, plus every house is completely different from the one next to it so there is plenty to look at. I'm sure the people that live in the particularly interesting houses think that we're very strange.
With all this walking (and occasionally running) it was definitely time for me to get some new shoes.

I've had these Asics 2150s for at least 3 years. I bought them when I started training for my 2nd 1/2 marathon. I ended up dropping down to the 8k for that race but that means they still survived the beginning of training for the 1/2 marathon, the 8k and then another 2 years of off and on running (which I'm pretty sure included a 10k or two) and countless walks. I spent a good hour shoe shopping online this week to find a new pair but apparently Asics doesn't make them anymore because I had a really hard time finding them in my size!
I finally tracked them down at The Gear Lounge and they even had them in this pretty purple/white - the only thing I ever disliked about my old pair was the pink, which is really not my color. Purple on the other hand has been my favorite color forever and was even one of our wedding colors. I know it's silly to pick running/walking shoes based on what they look like, but some running shoes are ugly. It's hard to get motivated to run as it is, putting on ugly shoes wouldn't help the situation.
We're definitely going to continue our walks but I'm hoping to add back in some running as well. I had to stop my Couch to 5k program because of some hip pain I was having after each run. I know you runner types will say something about how I should've gotten new shoes way earlier...I get it, and I've got them now :)

I desperately need new running shoes. I pronate, so I've stuck with my old pair for so long because they are comfortable and prevent pronation, and every time I buy a new pair it seems my knees kill me!
ReplyDeleteYeah now that I know they aren't making that style anymore, I'm tempted to stock up because I have such a hard time finding shoes that work for me!
DeleteI swear by Asics, are they really not making them anymore! They are the most comfortable running shoes i've ever owned. It's a shame you had to stop your program because of hip pain, have you tried taking joint supplements regularly? They really helped my knee pains.
ReplyDeleteI don't see them on the Asics site anymore and I had a REALLY hard time finding these in my size! I have not tried any supplements yet, I'm going to see how stretching and the new shoes do first. Thanks for the information!
