6 Months In: Beaches, Grad School and Zombie Fleas

Well we've officially been on the west coast for six months! And it's been almost seven months since our wedding! I think we're definitely settling in to our new life out here. It's not as different on the west coast as I thought it would be, with the exception of the near perfect weather that I think makes everyone just a little happier.

Our new neighborhood hangout, Pacific Beach

Kate Sessions Park, just a few block from us, most amazing views of the ocean & downtown SD!

The two hardest things about our move here to California have been being away from our families and Ty finding a job. Oh and the fleas. These poor guys have been itching like crazy.

Ok, they don't look itchy here but I promise they were miserable!
I think we have it under control thanks to my friend Kira who works at a vet clinic, but they've got super zombie fleas here in San Diego. Those suckers will not die! Even though our cats are indoors, the fleas found them. Apparently the fleas love the pleasant year-round weather just as much as we do. We combed, Frontlined, sprayed the carpet and bombed the entire apartment and those sucker were still here. Kira swooped in to save the day though, two doses of pills and spraying the carpet a second time with a flea killer she recommended and the kitties are much happier. I think it's going to be an ongoing battle though, we're switching them to Advantage which we've been told works better on the zombie fleas of PB. We shall see.

As far as missing our families, Skype is an amazing thing to stay in touch with them, and our friends. It's such a big difference actually getting to see them when you're talking! Plus, you can have a virtual wine night even from 3,000 miles away. You can find me at least one night a week with a glass of wine and my laptop, chatting with my mom or one of my friend girlfriends from college.

Ty is still on the job hunt which has been tough, but luckily we were prepared for it. He's working on a few different sources of income while he's hunting, and for now I'm thoroughly enjoying having a house husband that cleans and runs errands :)

The biggest thing that's happened out here is that I got into grad school! I am officially a Torero!

Yep, that's my campus up on a hill overlooking the ocean. It's going to be rough going there all the time :)
I'll be getting my Masters in Nonprofit Leadership & Management starting in September. It's a very competitive program so I was so relieved when I was accepted. It's going to be a challenge working almost full time and going to school full time, but it's a subject that I'm passionate about and I'm a big nerd, so I know I'll love it. Plus, a lot of what I'll be learning I can apply directly to my job which is nice.
We're adjusting well to life on the west coast. Since we lived together for several years before we got married, it has helped us really feel like we're starting our lives together. If we had gone back to the same house and same jobs and the same, well everything, I don't think we would've been able to appreciate the specialness of being newlyweds.

We have an exciting week coming up, but since it is supposed to be a surprise for certain people who may or may not read this, I won't go into details...off to take a walk around the neighborhood!
