My 28 Goals for my 28th Year

Like I said before, I'm not big on new year's resolutions, but for some reason this year I got it in my head that I wanted to set some goals for the year. I've read on blogs in the past where they've posted 25 things to in their 25th year, which inspired me to do what I'm calling my 28 in 28 since I just celebrated my 28th birthday. Hopefully in a year I can come back and cross all of these off!

My 28 in 28
  1. Try hot yoga.
  2. Hike Torrey Pines. Check! June 2012
  3. Hike Joshua Tree.
  4. Do a yoga month (4 weeks, 4 studios, yoga everyday)
  5. Take a day trip to LA to do touristy stuff.
  6. Complete Couch to 5k program and run a 5k in 30 mins. or less.
  7. Read 1 new book a month. (suggestions?)
  8. Pay off my Citi credit card.
  9. Take an anniversary trip with Ty.
  10. Cook 1 new recipe a week.
  11. Blog once a week on both blogs. (here and my new one http://jessgreensd.wordpress.com/)
  12. Apply for my Master's degree. Done! 2/28/2012
  13. Go to 1 networking event per month. (starting tonight with YNPN San Diego!)
  14. Take a train trip.
  15. Complete Katy Widrick's blog homework.
  16. Unplug completely one weekend a month.
  17. Go to a Padres game. Check! 7/21/2012
  18. Find my State Park Passport and visit 5 state parks.
  19. Go to the farmer's market twice a month.
  20. Donate $10 a month to a different charity. (I'll be posting about this on my Jess Green blog next week)
  21. Take a conversational Spanish class.
  22. Learn to make really good homemade bread.
  23. Host a dinner party for more than 4 people.
  24. Go whale watching.
  25. Do 28 military pushups. (Right now I can do 5, maybe...)
  26. Make a list of 28 movies to watch. (recommendations please!)
  27. Completely declutter and organize our apartment.
  28. Call or Skype with our family and at least one far away friend every week.
These are in no particular order, I just wrote them down as they came to me. I did do a little research for inspiration by looking at goals other bloggers had posted. Overall I feel like this list is very doable and will also help me get out and explore our new city!

To explain the yoga month, I miss my yoga studio back in VA :( so I thought it would be fun to take advantage of the free week of yoga that most studios offer during back to back weeks for one month. That way I can check out a few different studios and try a variety of types of yoga. I had a few criteria for the studios, mainly that they are either near our apartment or on the way to work. I've got the 4 studios picked out already, so now I just need to pick the month to do it! It'll be interesting, 2 of them are hot yoga (which I've never done, see #1) and 2 are "regular" yoga.

I think I like setting specific, to do list type of goals versus big overall goals like "eat healthier" or "be more mindful." I really like the action of physically crossing things of a list, and I actually wrote these goals down on paper too so I could do just that!

I'm working on the book and movie lists so if you have any suggestions let me know!

  1. I love so many of these, especially #1 :) I just started and fell in love with hot yoga at a new studio here in RVA, and I go 4 to 5 times a week now! And I meant to swing by earlier and tell you happy birthday but I've been so crazy busy, so happy belated birthday :) Good luck on knocking out these goals, they are awesome! I should do the same.
