Our birthdays are back to back, which is really fun because we get to celebrate both days! Actually, the very first time we met had a little something to do with our birthdays. We met in the most romantic way possible...as coworkers at the ever so classy Applebee's :) the restaurant was new so the week before they opened we had training, and the first day as the very first ice breaker they had everyone line up by their birthdays. I don't remember if we even talked more than to just say "I'm January 5th, oh and my name is Jessica." but I do remember sitting back down with my friends afterwards and telling them January 4th was really hot haha.
Our first California birthdays were really fun, it just so happened our friends Ben & Cat and their baby Luke we're in town for the week! Wednesday night we went to PB Fish Shop for Ty's birthday with a pretty big crew. Ty's brother and their friend Justin (the road trip team) have been here since Christmas and it was also their last night in town. The fish shop was really good, hands down the best french fries I've had in California so far! And the lobster tacos were good too mmmm.

We had a pretty laid back weekend, I skipped out on a few activities because I wasn't feeling so hot, but I did get a lot done in our kitchen. Finally unpacking all of our wedding gifts (most of which are cooking related) was fun, so many new toys to play with! I do sort of feel pressured to cook now that I have all of these nice things to do it with.
I've never been much for new year's resolutions, I'm usually not very good at setting and sticking to goals, and I know a lot of people set them and never think much about them until the next year. Laying in bed the other night with cold medicine induced insomnia, I had some time to think back on 2011 and realized how completely different my life is now than it was one year ago. I got married, we moved almost 3,000 miles away from home, and I started a new job. With all of those changes going on, there wasn't a ton of time to do other things I might have wanted to. So I decided (under the influence of a fabulous decongestant) that it might be fun to set a few goals for the year. Not new year's resolutions really, I was inspired by turning 28 on my birthday which just happens to fall very close to the new year. I'm making a list of 28 things I want to do in my 28th year! I figure it's also a good way to get to know our new city and take advantage of the fact that I actually have a little free time these days. I'm pretty much done with the list at this point and am planning to post it this week just for fun.
A few of them are fitness related, so I kicked off today by starting a Couch to 5k program! Well, re-starting actually :) I tried to start it a few weeks ago, never a good idea to start something like that during the holidays. Either way, I had a great run/walk this afternoon.
Do you set new year's resolutions or goals for the year? Or the month even?

happy happy birthday week!
